Cam's Coffee Run

It has been quite a while since I wrote anything for this blog - I have been waiting for the time to be right. Cameron is on my mind and in my heart everyday but sometimes the stories just don't come. That is until today when I decided to tell you about a new venture we are pursuing in his memory. I want to tell you about something called "Cam's Coffee Run".

As you know, Cameron loved the movies so we have been purchasing movie cards to distribute to anyone who might enjoy a movie and a snack. These cards have been given to Cameron's co-workers, fellow students, friends, family, strangers and those in need. We will continue to do this with the help of those who understand the spirit in which these cards are given.

You also know that Cam loved working at the Lunar Rogue - but did you know that one of his regular duties was to take orders from co-workers and pick up coffee at Tim Horton's? He did this so often that it came to be called "Cam's Coffee Run" and I am told it is still called that today.

The coffee run was more than just a routine duty to Cameron - it was also a chance to get away from work on a break, do a small favour and even make some money in the bargain. Cameron was naturally generous and kind-hearted, but he also had Scottish blood and was nobody's fool - so he made sure that part of the deal was that he got to keep the change!

These gift cards will not only help us to remember Cameron and his special ways but they will also help others in some small way. Let's all think about that as we sip our coffee and dunk our donuts when we make our next coffee run... and don't forget to keep the change.

This is What We Do...

When Cameron passed away the first thing I asked Julie was “What do we do now?” and of course we didn't know the answer at that time. Well, after one short year and many long days we now know the answer. And this is what we do....

We carry on and we stay "extra strong" using Cameron's life and spirit as inspiration. It is never easy but when the going gets tough we have a fine example to follow.

We plan more and we do more. Some of the things we have planned are to distribute more movie cards, sponsor a monthly movie night, and hopefully establish a scholarship through Fredericton High School to encourage at risk students to push through and succeed. Cameron became an excellent student while attending post secondary school and this should be remembered and held up as an example and an inspiration to others.

We remember more and share more - memories, stories and pictures. And thanks to John's tireless efforts to retrieve, assemble and collaborate on some music tracks that Cameron created there will always be lots of music to enjoy.

We celebrate more - weddings, birthdays and holidays. All those events that mark our days and make up the story of our lives, be they short or long. And when you come right down to it, they are all either too short or too long.

Cam faced his trials and showed us the way with his unwavering sense of hope, patience, bravery and humour. We have worked hard to live up to that standard and we will continue to do so. The bar has been set pretty high but I think we are on the right track.

So we never lose hope but now hope has been reinforced by a sense of purpose. And that purpose is to continue to promote Cameron's interests and talents and share them with others by offering encouragement, respite and yes, even entertainment.

So we carry on, we plan, we remember and we celebrate. This is what we do...
